Just off the main square down a medieval street in the town of Le Dorat, which is a small town partly surrounded by its original 15th century defensive walls this terraced town house, reputed to be over 600 years old; is an ideal base for taking in the history of this beautiful region of France.
One of the most popular visitors haunts in Le Dorat is the Collegiale Saint-Pierre church. Constructed originally in the 12th century the church was fortified in the 15th century in part by the addition of the square tower (when the town ramparts were constructed). One of the finest churches in the region, it features an octagonal bell tower on three levels, and several other features of interest including the stone entrance doorway, influenced by Arab architectural styles, and an 11th century crypt. Inside the church take a look at the substantial granite baptism font; which dates from a time when full body baptisms took place.
Le Dorat itself has a train station all the amenities you would need for everyday living including a supermarket, restaurants, gift shops, butchers, bars and an amazing bar/restaurant with a vaulted dining room (see CB1409). The larger town of Bellac is only 15 minutes drive from Le Dorat and is well worth a visit.
Limoges airport is just a 45 minute drive.
The current owners for the past 7 years have renovated the property; but it still has some scope for you to put your own mark on it.
The house benefits from mains electricity, water and drainage, it has partial double glazing. A new roof was completed in only last year. Heating is a wood burning fire, with electric radiators for secondary heating, should they be needed. Broadband is available.
